If the logs are to be believed, then the women of the fair knew of this location and its importance prior to their arrival. None of the population can claim as much themselves. As such, I question the value of anyone's familiarity.
I have educated myself thoroughly since arriving here. I probably know more than most of its actual residents, if the texts are to be believed. What is the point behind this?
The point is that though you might have lived on American soil, you knew a nation that existed in its stead and you had to educate yourself to the contrary before you could understand the similarities. Anyone who would take the tear and make assumptions based on their own experiences in another dimension will provide faulty, biased information. They must first educate themselves on the systems here.
