It's a bit random, but people just wake up as animals or in a different body. I won't say "you'll get used to it" because there are some things people really shouldn't get used to.

I wonder how often people actually talk about their sign. Seems like camp really doesn't think this one through.

It's probably the fact that people won't talk about their sign that makes it so effective. Seeing little hints about people's lives, things your friends might be keeping from you - well, it colors everything, doesn't it? Subconsciously, of course, for some.
