He's basically indentured to a complete and utter psychopath that's like super vampiric who really likes to mess with people and kill things, which is definitely making him just as unstable as said psychopath. And when Stefan Salvatore is unstable, history shows that bad things happen and there is essentially nothing that can be done until he's out from under that guy's thumb.
