I'm not absolutely sure, but I think it just takes less time to go through Darkness than it does to just go through physical space.

Oh, I didn't discover them. These guys I used to work for taught me how to use them.

Are there unique properties involved in their use?

Well, you have to be able to manipulate Darkness to open a portal. Also, you have to have some kind of protection against the Darkness, if you're using them a lot.

And what is your protection?

I have a coat that protects my body from damage. Most people have to worry about the Darkness eroding their heart, too. Not guys like me, though.
