[somewhere between the stationhive, the capsule house, and the mess hall, two short-tempered aliens are making a bit of a ruckus. business as usual, one might think, but if anyone who knows either of the two arguing comes near, they might notice something's a bit... off.]

[Well... I was coming to find you to discuss THINGS. Now, I'm more than a little knocked off-base and distracted.]

... Mother's...

What do you mean?

Mother also... possessed that power.

[Continuing in the most level tone possible but no longer looking at her and more facing off into the distance.]

Hers was different, as mine is. As far as I know, she only ever used it once.

That night.

[tiredly:]

What was her power?

... To transfer her mind and self into another.

[just... mentally blanks, looking at him as though he's grown a second head, one that spouts silly little nonsense like "to transfer her mind and self into another."]

What?

[Still not looking at and dropping voice even lower, as he mind returns to his last conversation with his mother, to her fervor about saving the people from themselves through her and the emperor's plan.]

Marianne vi Britannia was... within Anya Alstreim for most of this time.

As much as I can tell. It must have been brought on by times by Mother asserted herself on Alstreim's conscious.

[So you remember all those times,

all those many times when Lelouch told her about all those many things that Marianne did and Cornelia remained unshaken in her loyalty to the woman?

This is different. This changes things.]

She's a child.

[This is what happens when I try to tell the truth. orz

Also sounds rougher and does finally turn back to her, old frustration and hurt in his eyes.]

She was the only one there.

Mother could not risk losing her chance at fulfilling their plan. She believed she was making things better for everyone. Individual lives were not a part of the equation.

[STOP FEELING GUILTY FOR THINGS YOUR MOM DID]

... dammit.

[I am still a little UPSET with her sometimes.]

... She left her when I returned to Kamine. After... Fleija.

[Even after all this time, the memory of that needless destruction of life and the excruciating belief that he had lost Nunnally forever still feels so fresh in his mind, causing the word to catch for just a moment in his throat.]

Anya had orders to pursue you. The last thing she remembers is blacking out before being taken down.
