Considering that the doctor continues to deposit these medical kits, I imagine there is some means of actually combating this thing that has yet to be included in these stories.

As he had managed to slip two messages in his communications the other day, this conformation to chronology seems foolish. We should have received the most essential pieces first. Tch, and now finding him to accelerate the process has become... rather difficult.

Of course not. As you pointed out, the suggestion is that there is in fact a way to defeat--or at least repel--this threat. Or perhaps it is simply that we are to weather the storm as best as we may. Regardless, complete annihilation does not seem to be the only possible outcome.
