[posting from his laptop in the Center of Camp]

Okay, so now seems like as good a time as any to get organised. There's that countdown clock and all of those cryptic notes of doom and lots of mysterious beautiful strangers. Speaking of which, if anyone has the phone number for that engineer? Hook me up. I've thought of a few more questions I'd like to ask him ( Read more... )

If it fires, I can shoot it.

I'm tempted to challenge that.

[thinks for a second, and then pulls out a long slender rod out of hammerspace.]

Try this.

Oh, don't look at me like that, I didn't have time to make it look cooler.

Hold onto the end, squeeze it and don't worry about the kickback. This is an antimatter conduit, not a gun.

It also serves as a decent crowbar.

Why in the world are you carrying anti-matter with you?

You are aware all the stupid science stuff I do is for a reason, right? That's just to make sure I live long enough to fulfil my purpose.

Why do I get the feeling that I'm not going to like the story that goes with this?

Well. That and I just really like science.

No way, I love my job.

I used to look at the world and think "everything's wrong!" Now I get to look at it and go "how can I change it?"

I'm part of something much greater - we all are. I'm just lucky enough to be able to see it. Sure it's hard, sure sometimes you just want to scream or cry that it's not fair, but I was chosen because I am the right person for the job and because I want to give everyone a better ending.

[and then he laughs, sheepishly]

Sorry, that was pretty stupid, wasn't it?
