Because they were assassinated and driven from their place, or roamed to other, newer worlds that they could shape in their image.

At times, yes. But they leave because their places are erased by time. And even gods are subject to time.

Once, I could bend time to my will, and now I am held in its grasp as firmly as any lower being. All things, and all places, too, must be erased. It is not time that erases places; it is the use of force, and the limits of flesh.
