Trick or Treat

[Today, the mess hall has sprouted a porch -- all the better for trick-or-treaters -- and on this porch sits some statues. There is a fourth gargoyle as well, holding a candy-filled bowl in its outstretched hands]

(Taking a piece of candy could land you with a Trick-- either loss of sight, speech, or hearing -- or it may be a perfectly harmless

Gargoyles aren't meant to be cute. And this isn't the same as knocking on someone's door and asking for candy.

Is this an example of when October is dangerous?

Unpredictable and potentially dangerous, yes.

And try to take candy from people you know too.

I'm not sure how safe the fun fair is either, but the food and sweets there seem to be mostly all right.

Why is it scary here for the entire month?

There are some theories, but wanting to match the mood for Halloween doesn't really make sense.

Halloween is just for a day, but here, it lasts a month.

Yes. And it's supposed to have been a harvest festival in the past.

That sounds fun! Way more fun than the regular trick or treating!
