They named her Marcy. The weirdest thing for me was how a giant squid thing lasted so long out of water but by then I just stopped questioning.

In general? This place used to be a swamp or whatever, and Marcy lived in a nearby lake to make sure people didn't get ideas about swim rules. Then something happened and the Director moved it into the cornstalks, and now we have carnies and world devourers and stuff.
