[The last Thanksgiving dessert pie hasn't even been cleaned out yet, and already something is astir in camp. Small flat boxes are falling from the sky, pounding loudly on cabin rooftops and littering the campgrounds and floating in the duck pond. Yes. Major holiday is Betau - first day of the New Year. End of winter in salarian homeworld's southern hemisphere. Repay debts and ask for favors at this time.

That's interesting. We celebrate the same day, but we have a different custom instead where we make resolutions for the new year. Or that's how it is in America, at least.

Yes, did some reading into American holidays. Typically party on New Year's Eve, drinking alcohol and counting down to midnight. Fireworks and so on. Are you from America, originally?

It is. People usually make visits to shrines or temples on the first. They eat special food and play games and various other things.
