Mistletoe - it's on your head!

Dec 20, 2011 18:31

*You're walking along, doing you're business... enjoying the season, or getting decapitated or however you deal with December, and then you have a hat.

It's a lovely, well made top hat that seems to fit perfectly.

The hatband is a wreath of mistletoe.

You're welcome.*

((I was told to make a mistletoe post, okay.))

Mistletoe, though a type unlike any other on this Earth.

Really? What makes this one unusual?

Are you familiar with the holiday tradition? Requiring two people standing together underneath it to kiss. Well, proximity to this camp-specific strain of the plant forces people to follow it, whether they want to or not.

...given that, I suppose that we should do introductions.

[gives a manly, firm handshake with just the right amount of manliness]

Jean-Luc Picard. Captain, technically, but Jean-Luc is fine.

I see. Yes, I am aware of the tradition, though not of participants being forced to follow it.

*...it. it's like I see all that I want to ever become- er. returns the handshake quite gamely.*

A pleasure, Jean-Luc. And yes, it's one of those camp exclusives. Similar to how there are periodically occasions when people are forced to tell the truth for a certain amount of time or find themselves wearing a certain type of clothing for some event or other. Social engineering at... well, it's most forceful, at least. Whether or not it's at its finest is a very subjective judgment.

[there's a certain ineffable quality about you, something that makes me think better of you than I do of most people under fifty, can't quite put my finger on it]

Hm. Thank you for the information, Charles. Have you been able to discern any common thread to these social engineering events? Is there someone attempting to learn about us?

That seems to be a key point that remains unclear: how much of all of this is truly engineered and how much is the result of some sort of mad science gone amuck and turned to uncontrolled chaos. The Director, Elisabeth Sayre, and the rest of the Camp administration was behind at least some of it, but they've been heard of significantly less in the past years, from what I've been able to tell.
