Character: Natsume Takashi
Series:
Natsume YuujinchouCharacter Age: 15
Canon: Natsume Yuujinchou is the story about a boy named Natsume Takashi who has the ability to see spirits and demons. After his parents' death, Natsume is shuffled around between relatives who don't want or care about him until one day he ends up with a very distantly related family. In this new town he finds out that his grandmother had the same power he does and he inherits her Book of Friends. This book is filled with the names of spirits that she subjugated and made her servants when she was alive. These spirits, still bound to her even after her death, are now chasing down Natsume in order to reclaim their names and their freedom.
After several years of being mistreated by friends and family, Natsume has become rather wary of humans, although he's never been fond of the supernatural either. Withdrawn and quiet, he spends a lot of time introspecting about his life and past experiences. He's afraid to get too close to anyone for fear of being cast away again and he does his best to keep his ability a secret, but this doesn't actually stop him from caring about the people around him. Despite his often distant behavior, he's slowly started to open up as a result of the kindness he's been shown in his new life. This gives him the chance to reveal the good heart hidden beneath his loneliness, usually in the form of him recklessly putting himself in harm's way for both humans and spirits alike. He has his limits though and can get annoyed easily or be short-tempered at times. He also definitely has no problems fighting back or standing up for himself.

If I were to keep a diary about all the strange things that happen to me, today's entry would go something like this:
I seem to be destined for an odd and eventful life. The train that I was supposed to take to the countryside ended up dropping me off in America. I’m not really sure how that works, but it’s been pretty disorienting. Even more so since I spent most of the morning running and hiding from zombies. I could only do that for so long until I got pretty tired of it which is when I started punching them instead. I know this was a bad idea, but it was all I could think to do at the time.
I'm just glad that Gorilla-san rescued me when she did. I've heard that you should never look a gift-horse in the mouth, so when she showed up with her purple fur and little pink bow on her head to lay the rest of those zombies flat, I didn't really question it. Maybe I should have, but after the dust had settled, I couldn't even get a word in edgewise with the way she was fussing over me. I've never had a paw so big pet my hair so softly.
Actually the whole thing was pretty embarrassing, but I couldn't really be too mad about it. I think that's why it caught me off guard though, when she started grunting at me as if she was trying to tell me something. I was a little hesitant to listen at first, but I eventually gave in because it's thanks to her that I still have my brain. The conversation that followed was kind hard to keep up with, but her attempt at communicating via charades was cute in an odd way. I somehow managed to get the gist of it. A monster up in a tower had stolen her golden bananas. I'm pretty sure I made some sort of "Really?" face at that point because she started to look disappointed, but after a few wild gestures of my own, I managed to assure her that I would help her out. It wouldn't be the first crazy thing I've done in my life, and I'm positive it won't be the last. Of course I never imagined that what would be waiting for me up in that tower was a tentacle monster.
Now I know that I probably shouldn't have gotten involved. I should have turned around right then and there and left. I could've sworn I'd even heard my voice yelling that at me in the back of my head. But I couldn't get her smile out of my mind. It might seem silly, but it was so bright and she had been so kind to me, that I know I would have never been able to forgive myself if I had backed out. So I climbed that tower with what courage I could muster and I faced those tentacles and I got back those golden bananas.
So what if I'm covered in slime and my clothes are torn up. I keep thinking about how happy she was afterward and how warm the hug she gave me was. I know for a fact that if I were presented with the same situation in the future, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Series:
Mahou Sensei Negima (manga)Character Age: 15
Canon: NOTE: Chizu-nee is being apped from prior to the magical world adventure arc.
Mahou Sensei Negima follows the story of a Negi, a young boy who aims to become a great wizard and to both follow in his father's footsteps and find his father, a feat which is somehow to be accomplished by teaching a highly energetic class of middle school girls. Of course, many of them have or gain their own magic powers, and over the course of the series they join Negi to assist in his quest.
Chizu-nee, however, has yet to join up with the group assisting Negi or even learn about the magical world. Instead, she carries on what seems like a mundane life of volunteering at the campus daycare and acting as a kind of den mother to her roommates. She adores children and helping people and is known for her incredible patience and tolerance regarding them. She's also very perceptive, a trait that comes in handy when gauging whether someone is a serious threat or merely upset. Chizu-nee also possesses a strong moral sense and incredible levels of bravery-although she has no combat skills we know of, she appears to be almost completely fearless in the face of threats being made against other people. Conversely, she's well known for her temper, especially over slights against herself, and will often resort to terrifyingly stern looks or comedic violence if need be.
She does frequently heart-mark in canon and is prone to occasional "ara ara"s or "(oh) my"s.

Ara ara, it's certainly an . . . interesting day camp you've got here. I've never heard of one with a horror theme before, but the children do seem to be enjoying it. I suppose I would too if I got to dress up like that~ But I wish they hadn't been so stubborn about staying in character. The little werewolves growling were cute, but the zombie children refused to say anything but "brains" for the first hour! It usually doesn't take me that long to get children to behave, but I did finally get them to actually speak with me. Although they wouldn't stop moaning everything. -How did I do it? Why, it only takes the right approach and a good, stern look. ♥
I also thought the treats for snack-time were . . . something, but I wish I'd been more prepared for them. I wasn't expecting to open the refrigerator and see trays of human fingers and brains in jello cups! I suppose I can't blame you for wanting to remain true to the horror theme, but it would have been nice to warn your volunteer when you've made everything so realistic. Even filling the fingers with that red syrup . . . !
Oh, the children loved them, although it put them into quite a frenzy~! I was sure some of them were about to take each other's arms off. It's a good thing I was able to get them outside to work that energy off. ♥ And my, the "scary" playground is really rather cute! The spider web jungle gym is my favorite, but I think it would be much better if it weren't quite so sticky. I can only go pry a child off of it so many times before I begin to lose my patience with it~ Even worse is that animatronic spider at the top of the web. I'm sure it's entertaining most of the time, but it froze up today with a little girl pinned under its legs! I had to give it quite a firm slap before it started moving again so I could get her out. I'd really had enough of the playground after that incident.
Thankfully, even a bunch of energetic kids didn't want to stay out long in that heat, so I decided to let them work off creative energy in arts and crafts instead. ♥ But, you know, after seeing their drawings, I've become quite concerned about the way all this exposure to so many frightening things is affecting them. Of course there were plenty of normal pictures by most of the children. I especially liked the little girl who drew a tentacle beast on a silo fighting a group of people. Quite an impressive imagination in that girl! However~ I can't help but be concerned when a child draws a picture of me being eaten by himself and his friends. That's certainly a cause for alarm. Perhaps it's time to rethink the theme, don't you agree?
Ara ara, I thought so. ♥
Poll Vote! Character: Harry Potter
Series:
Harry Potter Character Age: 17
Canon: It’s a popular belief that magic doesn’t exist at all, but the truth is, it’s kept a secret. Seemingly hidden in the crevices of the normal, “Muggle,” world, there’s a society of witches and wizards living out their lives with magical customs and their own set of heroes. Some are bearded headmasters of magical schools and others are teenagers who wouldn’t have chosen that path for themselves. But they’ve embraced it all the same; after all, it’s not just their world that’s at stake, it’s everyone’s.
Since he was an infant, Harry Potter was marked by destiny-he got a lightning bolt-shaped scar out of it and everything-to come head to head with a dangerous dark wizard by the name of Lord Voldemort, who threatened to wipe out all the non-magical people. At this age, Harry was the sole survivor of an attack that led to Voldemort vanishing and him earning fame the “boy who lived.” Years later, Harry enters the wizarding boarding school known as Hogwarts, and despite the hardships he’s faced, he acquires two extremely close friends who support him as he takes on the task of Voldemort’s sole adversary. Harry is neither a guy who lets his fame get to his head nor is he the typical dashing hero. He’s awkward in how he carries himself, and he has a strong sense of who he is after so long. That isn’t to say he’s flawless. His arrogance and quick temper get the best of him, driving his often stubborn and self-righteous belief that he’s always right. He’s made a number of poor choices along the way, but thankfully, his heart is always in the right place and he always has his friends to ground him. In the end, he’ll always help anyone he can without any real care for himself.
Note: Harry will be coming directly post-canon, but pre-epilogue.

This isn’t really the first time I’ve run into someone who won’t just let up, but you lot are doing pretty well for yourself. I’m not too fond of the fact that you’ve just dragged me here, even if I reckon I understand why you need my help. But next time, it might be a good idea to ask first. You want to know how to be heroes, right? Well, I can tell you one thing: those Hallowe’en costumes you’re carrying won’t do it. So just drop all of it-though I guess you can’t drop the fur. There’s really no fixing all that purple, is there? I’d offer to help, but I don’t actually know the spell myself. You’ll have to come the way you are, then.
-Er, maybe that wasn’t the best way to go about it. I can tell you’re all disappointed because you expected a lot more from me. You all just wanted some help in being proper heroes for this … camp. Dangerous things are coming, yeah? If there’s anything I have experience with, it’s a lot of that, but I wouldn’t say that makes me the right man for the job. I’ve met a lot of people in my life that would be a lot better at this. Mum and Dad, my godfather, my best friends, and even a professor who was a werewolf who did everything he could to help despite the world working against him. It wasn’t always easy for them, but they were far better heroes than anyone. They were the ones who really taught me how to do what needed to be done. I reckon I could tell you some of what they told me, but it just wouldn’t be the same.
But ... all right, I’ll try to do my best. Like I said, costumes won’t just do the trick. The most important part of being a hero is having someone to protect. You’ll need people you love-and people to love you, too. They’ll be the ones who will give you the strength to continue on. I saw the giant squid on the top of the silo, and she seemed to have the right idea. Er, she was a little too friendly, but if there was ever a problem here, I bet she’d protect all the people she cares about from up there. The other important thing is to never be too prepared. Nothing ever goes as planned. I mean, look at me now. I was finally getting a break from all the trouble I’ve faced back home, and now I’m here. I’m ready for anything, and I’ll even help you all out.
Right, that’s all I have. I hope you lot aren’t disappointed still. There really isn’t a guidebook to this. But I do recall something one of those birds mentioned and I wanted to clear that up. You’ll want to skip all the fighting and roughing up after this, because you haven’t got the right idea. Being a hero is about heart and having someone to love, and the last thing you need to have anyone believe you’re a professional is a scar.
Poll Vote! Character: Tatsumi Kanji
Series: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Character Age: 17
Canon: Welcome to Inaba! It's the boondocks! Not so happy that your parents dumped you here while they worked abroad for a year? Whatever, you're a MegaTen protagonist. You can handle it all - interpersonal relationships, balancing two clubs at the same time, or, you know, diving into TV sets to figure out the culprit behind a mysterious set of murders (and attempted ones) that have been happening with increasing and alarming frequency in town. The world inside the TV is called the Shadow World, and much of the gameplay revolves around trying to save the people who get thrown in there, both from an untimely death and from their darkest inner thoughts, which manifest as "shadows".
Tatsumi Kanji was lucky enough to be saved from the TV world by the protagonist, but his struggles didn't end there. Kanji's arc is mostly about him coming to terms with his masculinity. This is mostly thanks to his hobbies, such as sewing and knitting, which have been deemed "girly" by his peers. As a result, Kanji has taken to assuming a punk-like attitude, to try to keep off some of the teasing. Kanji is a kid that is full of good intentions who usually manages to mess them up. He is also a huge dork, sometimes prone to nonsensical rambling and also getting easily excited over simple things like school trips. And he couldn't ever fake that hair-trigger temper, so just don't tell him that you think there's something wrong with his hobbies. You might just get a desk thrown in your face.

Alright, welcome to "Beginner's Crane Folding!" It's so basic, I can't believe you haven't figured it out yet. And if you think this is hard, then just wait until you get into like, quilts and stuff. Those're a pain and a half, and they aren't even that cute! Well, most of the time, anyways, though I found this really cute bunny print cloth at the store a few days ago. I wish I could've found somethin' to make with it...
Uh, wait, what was I talking about again? Oh right, I was trying to teach you guys how to make one of these things. So, you start by folding a square, then you unfold it - nah, that's no good, your final product's gonna be all messed up. This is why you never start beginners on the more advanced origami, I should've started with the balloon or something. No, seriously, don't keep foldin' and unfoldin', you'll make it even harder to recover! Just give it to me, I'll fix it up ... yeah! All done! That wasn't so bad, right?
Now that I look at ya again, your fingers're all big and furry. No wonder those cranes kept gettin' messed up. It's a miracle that it looks like a crane at all! It needs a gentle touch, 'n a lotta respect. I totally think you could be all delicate with 'em, if you put your mind to it. I mean, no one would think a kid like me'd be good at this right? Even though I was doing stuff like this long before I started dressin' all tough. I know it sounds kinda stupid, comin' out of the mouth of a punk like me. That a piece of paper needs respect in order to fold well. I guess you could say that a well formed crane is like a person going through life, they just keep puffing along with their wings going up and down. Or maybe it's more like, if you start by foldin' a person wrong, and you don't let 'em get fixed by a pro, then they'll always be damaged. You got that? Cool, I knew you'd understand me-
-Hey! You weren't nodding, you were holding your head down and tryin' not to laugh! You think this shit's funny? 'n you've still been sitting here all quietly and letting me do it? You think that just because you're bigger than me and you're covered in cute purple fur, you can do whatever the hell you want, huh! Just cut the crap! Even if I like foldin' paper together, that doesn't make me a sucker. 'n it sure as hell doesn't make me a pushover. So get up and get ready to fight me! You're gonna regret callin' origami a joke!

Series:
My Little Pony: Friendship is MagicCharacter Age: Little pony
Canon: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is all about ponies, friendship, and magic, just as the title says. The show, set in Equestria, follows Twilight Sparkle, a magical unicorn pony, as she embarks on adventures in learning about the importance of friendship and all of its qualities with her other pony friends.
Applejack is the first friend that introduces herself to Twilight Sparkle, and she shows her colors from the get-go. Extroverted, hard-working, and honest, she’s the pony’s definition of a Southern belle, vocabulary included. She’s definitely one down-to-Earth pony, constantly there for her friends and family in any time of need. Applejack is one pony you won’t regret having on your side, though the same can’t be said for the opposite--for all her good points, she can be ‘a mite’ stubborn, especially when it comes to things she may not agree with or like. At the end of the day, Applejack is a wholesome, caring pony who is able to see the error of her ways (of course, that is assuming she has any).
Helpful notes: ponies refer to ‘somebody/anybody/everybody/etc.’ as ‘somepony/anypony/everypony/etc.’ Applebucking is how Applejack’s family harvests their orchard’s crops.

Howdy, y’all! I’m real sorry I’m a mite late--it was a further trip here than I thought it’d be! I came as fast as my hooves would carry me from the orchard as soon as I finished readin’ the letter one of ya sent me. I’m real honored that ya wanted my help with your crop harvest--I didn’t know that word of Sweet Apple Acres had spread outside of Equestria, but ya couldn’t have asked for a better pony t’help out! Just point me in the right direction, and I’ll get to applebuckin’ lickety-split!
No, no, no, I said applebuckin’. What in the hay did ya think I was sayin’? There ain’t anything dirty about it, unless y’count workin’ up a sweat along with your appetite! Honest. If y’all had any apple trees around here, I could show ya what it’s all about! Though, once I get around to lookin’ here, I s’pose that tree over there’ll do just fine for an example, even if it ain’t growin’ apples. What is it growin’ up there, anyway? Those don’t look like any kinda fruit I’ve seen in Equestria. Anyway, if I could get ya t’set up a basket for those … whatever they are to land in, I’ll show ya how it’s done!
All right, now that everything’s set in place, I’ll just give ya a little run-through of what I do to harvest. Y’just gotta get a good gallopin’ start toward the tree, and then when you’re close enough, wham! Out falls the fruit into the basket! Or in this case, whatever it is that this tree grows. Easy as pie, ain’t it? Are y'all ready for the demonstration? Okay then, here I go! One... two... three!
And that’s how it’s done! … Ehehehe, sorry ‘bout that, y’all--I didn’t mean for any of it t’land on ya. Though, to be honest, that color suits your fur quite nicely!
