Come and knock on our door..

As I was on the train yesterday, I noticed something.  Bars (the drinking establishments) never have many windows (one large one in the front, maybe).  So I began to wonder why.  I don't think I have an answer, but I'm curious as to the reasoning behind it.  I think we first need to think about what's happening in this situation: a group of people ( Read more... )

Or maybe it's an architecture thing. Windows cause heat to be released from a building causing it to take more energy to heat the building. And no one starting to drink wants to drink in a cold environment during the winter.

Or, maybe it's not an architecture thing but an issue of what happens at bars? Fights, sometimes. Or just regular drunken disorderly behavior. Either way, a window can be a liability as people can either be thrown out it or fall into it. Girls in high heels who are drunk find it extremely difficult to walk, so a window around one of these girls can be very problematic if the girl falls.

And FYI, the goth bar entrance in my parts was just straight windows-good ten feet of them.

There is a bar in the Central West End that has windows on at least two of its sides (the front and one of the sides). I didn't see the back or the other side as I was just walking by but it was definetly interesting walking by and watching the scene going on inside.

And there are several places in London with windows for restuarants but I think dissent was the only bar/club with a big window. Kind of odd since it's so damn cold in the winter time here.
