I'm going insane writing. Would you say "...for reasons earlier mentioned" or do you find a preference for "...for reasons mentioned earlier."?

They both sound equally fine to me, but personally I would structure the sentence in a way that I could use the word aforementioned. That's just my style, though.

Good call. I'll see what I can do about that. But I'm making reference to something that has more distance than, say, a sentence or two before the current sentence. Aforementioned, to me, seems to have that property/feature assigned to it. But maybe it's just me. Thoughts?

I don't know what you are writing for, so that makes a difference. Anytime I've used the word aforementioned, it gets crossed out immediately by advisors, profs, etc. I would choose the second sentence. It sounds better to me when read aloud.

Neither option is particularly strong, but I'd say the second option is least passive and is probably the best.
