Mamet walks back home on automatic, trying not to think, but more, trying not to feel. Kara cursed as the rain began to fall, and then pour. It rained pretty often on the island, but it wasn't usually cold like this.

She picked up the pace towards Mamet's hut, anxious to get indoors, but paused just outside. There was white powder in a ring around the front of the hut, slowly turning to goop in the wet grass. It was everywhere, and though Kara had only ever seen the stuff in much smaller quantities, she recognized it, and the sight made the bottom of her stomach drop out. She ran the rest of the way to Mamet's hut, beating her fist against the door.

Mamet's laying in bed, listening to the rain pound against his roof. The knock startles him, causes him to physically jerk it's so loud. He sits up a little, figures it's Banky wanting to get out of the rain.

"Come in?"

The weight of Kara's relief to hear his voice sent her sagging against the door, following it almost bodily when it swung open.

"What is all that?" she demanded before she'd even found him in the room. "Outside, what is that?"

Mamet takes one look at Starbuck and lays back down. "How come you're out in the rain?" he asks instead of answering her question. He doesn't want to. He doesn't want to talk at all.
