Not really.
But the Soup made out of eggplant was a resounding failure. I've never had a Katzen recipe failure before...
In this case, though, I think I can chalk it up to user error. We were out of not one, but two ingredients that I consider staples. That last part is in there to try to justify why I was cooking a recipe without having all the ingredients. We have both now, but I don't think that I will be able to bring myself to buy another eggplant to cook something that went so wrong the first time. I tried imagining how it would have tasted without improvising, and it didn't seem appealing in my mind, so I am letting it go. Of course by "letting it go" I mean "pretending that it didn't take two days to write about it."
Which leaves me free to decide what the new recipe of the week will be. The boy was thinking it should be something Indian, perhaps with tamarind in it. (We have a bunch of sweet tamarind, which I bought for Indian food or to try to make that brown chutney in every restaurant. It turns out that sweet tamarind is more commonly used in Thai food... or at least from what little info I can find, that's what it seems like. I don't really know. We like Thai food, too, though...) I think I want to poke through some more ideas before I decide. So that's what I'll do.
In other news:
Work is still a challenge... in a bad way... to find pain-free or at least tolerable ways to get through the day. Looking forward to leaving.
Gardening and house renovation plans are tiding us through the winter. We did get to harvest some fresh basil for pizza last night, and we're going to start some bucket potatoes and a ginger plant. Man I can't even wait for garden fresh food...
That's about it today.
