My daughter was born last Monday weighing 7lbs15oz. We got a great latch right away and she only lost a few ounces (about 3% of her birth weight) by the time my milk came in early Thursday morning.
Once my milk came in she would nurse quite frequently during the day but maybe once during the night, going about 5-6 hour stretch before waking to ( Read more... )

Can you get in touch with a lactation consultant? Did Tyler nurse for a long time on each side? Addison was a pretty efficient nurser..and I didn't even feed her on both sides when she nursed. She'd nurse on one boob per feeding. I do remember that panicked "OMG..I'm empty feeling!" but I'd say if she's sleeping 6.5 hours she's getting enough to eat??? Maybe someone else will chime in here!

Not an expert but my body adjusted to Isaac's eating schedule very quickly. I don't remember specifics though. He was very much a comfort nurser too and eventually my body stopped producing milk constantly. Is she comfort nursing? I was never ever engorged either. Maybe your body is adjusting??

When Joaquim was born the midwives told me to wake him every 4 hours (I think it was) to nurse. They said that once he gained his birth weight back, he could do what he wanted. Mind you, I don't know if I completely agree with them and I didn't always do it (my nipples were so raw I dreaded him waking to nurse).

Also, when Alastair wouldn't latch and was tube feeding, the midwives had me pumping every hour and a half (i think it was) and then every three hours at night (I think it was - the first couple of weeks of my babies' lives were a blur)

I usually only do one breast per feed also. I'm sure it is just your body adjusting.
