Long time no post...

Have I updated since I posted Ella's birth story? I don't think so. So much has happened over the past year. Adjusting to two kids has been crazy, and we moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania. So here it goes...

A few months before Ella was born, Ty started to change. He's always been very sweet and sensitive, but around 2 1/2 (around the time he ( Read more... )

Joaquim was/is the same with his waking several times a night, even after the age of one. Alastair had stopped by about 10 months. It makes me smile because back then, I had so much patience and energy and I could handle it much better than I can now. Lou (because he has no breasts) ended up taking care of it because both of us, I mean all 3 of us, were completely exhausted since we were often up every 1.5-2 hours and then had to go to work and daycare. If he woke up: Lou would go in, change him, hush and hold him and put him back down. Of course, the first couple of times Lou had to do this for an hour or so, but then it got to the point where J knew he was coming, Lou would do his thing, lay him back down and J would go right back to sleep. After 3-4 nights of this, he was sleeping through the night (well, except for one wake up to nurse @ 4 and we still do this).

Congrats on the job. It sounds like the perfect setup.

I've seen suggestions of that in different places. Dad goes in and comforts baby to sleep, eventually baby realizes they aren't getting milk and so they begin to sleep through the night. Problem with that is Chris gets really tense when Ella cries. I've always believed in staying calm and baby will be calm. Chris gets tense and stressed and hot when Ella (or Ty for that matter) cries and they just can't calm down with him. He's not exactly a natural at parenting.

Last night Ella woke once to nurse. It was a good night, I slept like a rock.

In some ways I feel like I'm disappointing someone (my family? Myself?) that I'm not teaching. I loved teaching. I didn't care for all the paperwork and time spent away from the students. I think that's why I loved teaching in Korea and supply/substitute teaching. When I was in Texas I only subbed at a couple of schools, so I was able to get to know the staff and students, but 15 minutes after the bell, I was gone. Korea, well we didn't do much prep work there, did we? I love working at the YMCA. The ( ... )
