De's Birthday Whatsit - [ssshhhhhhhhhhh] - [Actor's Quarters]

It wasn't exactly a party, not really. Bill and Len weren't sure De was up for a party just yet, although he was showing distinct signs of improvement. Nor was it a dinner, or indeed - thank God - anything quite so sedate and affected as a tea party.
To Bill's mind, it was a whatsit. That would do. There was replicated birthday cake, which looked like it would probably taste okay, and had little blue balloons on it which Bill personally approved of greatly. There were various replicated party games, stumbled upon while attempting to program the thing for birthday cake and called forth just in case. There was even alcohol in reserve, in case De decided he was up for something a little less teddy bears' picnic.
There was, effectively, everything De's whatsit might need, except for De. Who was in his room, where he had been all day, completely oblivious. Bill just hoped he would be pleased by the surprise, rather than otherwise. That, and he really really hoped nobody was going to make anyone do anything two hundred and whatever times, in celebration of all the (dear God) years lying between 1920 and today.
There had been no formal start-time issued, so nobody was waiting around, particularly. Hopefully, a few people would arrive before De did.
