Living by yourself could be super awesome! I'm an outgoing introvert who really likes being in charge of her own space and as much as I love hanging out with people, I love living on my own and having my own place to come back to. It's only me who cares about the dishes :D Do you work at one office or many different ones? It might be nice to try living in a studio / 1 bedroom apartment not too far from work to cut down on your commute.
Oh and on the spaghetti jars thing - I found a magic thing at Bed Bath and Beyond. Aha! I used to take spaghetti jars to school to get guy friends to open :P I also have a stool for changing light bulbs and other things like that.

Oh that's awesome that staying married isn't necessary for you to keep your status! If you get a marriage-based green card in the States, it's only good for two years and you have to stay married through that time or you lose your green card. (Employment ones are good for ten years.)

Yeah, at least that was the case when I got my PR. I've heard that they've started to put restrictions in terms of needing to stay married for a certain amount of time, but that's a new thing that wasn't in place when I landed, so it doesn't affect me.
