Jack here is from a present-day AU. One day I'll get a proper history up, but until then, one will have to manage with a few loosely-strung-together facts.

Like his manga counterpart, Jack was born in a family of relatively minor nobility (English, in this case), the youngest of three boys and by far the most imaginative. He met Duke Baskerville while he was still in school-- the man was a widower with young twin daughters, and Jack immediately took to all three of them.

At sixteen and on holiday, Jack found a group of older children beating up on a pair of young boys. He chased the older lot away and rescued the brothers, which turned out to be Vincent and Gilbert. --Growing quickly attached to them, he eventually managed to convince his eldest brother to adopt them into the family. All the same, they latched onto Jack, and he to them, treating them a bit like younger brothers-- and as he grew a bit older, his own children.

Jack's relationship with Glen, never precisely conventional to begin with, took a rather scandalous turn when they finally went to bed together during the summer of Jack's seventeenth year. For a while, things were fine, but then Glen began acting increasingly erratic, jealous of Jack's attentions and downright hostile to people who took it away from him-- especially Gil and Vincent.

One night, with the twins, Gil, and Vincent staying over with Jack's youngest nephew (Oz), Glen set fire to the house and tried to kill him. --When the flames died down and the smoke cleared, it certainly looked as if he'd succeeded; there wasn't much left of the house. No remains were found, though.

Fast-forward ten years, now, shall we? Picture the scene: it's a beautiful day, it's sunny and warm and Vincent and Gilbert are all grown up, now, seated across from one another at a table outside a cafe. Gilbert is hunched over a steaming mug, and Vincent is as smarmy and sly as ever. They're in a part of town they don't usually visit-- Break had recommended it, and Oz had insisted that the brothers spend a little time together. Something catches Gilbert's eye. He turns, staring--

On the opposite side of the street, there's a strangely familiar figure window-shopping a second-hand store. It's been ten years, but he's aged well from this distance. That long braid, the energetic gestures and movements, and-- even from this far away, Gilbert knows that if that figure turns, he'll see green eyes.

Jack doesn't remember everything-- he's still iffy on some of the details, and it's taken him a long time to regain even that much. Still, he's doing better, certainly, especially for Gilbert and Vincent's sakes.

appearance
Jack was homeless for a few years while recovering his memory (he's still not exactly what one would call rich), so he has a particular fondness for hand-me-downs and refurbished clothes. He tends toward jeans, t-shirts, and colourful jackets, scarves, and shoes.

Jack still has scars from the fire, though they're not nearly as bad as they might've been-- they're mostly on his arms, shiny faded lines and marks that aren't terribly obvious until one is close to him. Both of his wrists are also pretty scarred-- he had a bad couple of months just after waking up in the hospital, and tried to kill himself several times before he started to recover.
