I feel very wobbly on Yousuke. I want to like him, but he makes it very difficult for me. We spent a lot of the late game (...beginning immediately after the camp-out, honestly)not bringing yousuke, or purposely under-equiping him because we're all logical like that, and honestly I was just so mad at his character. But I am...at least getting around to liking parts of him, again. I can see where he's getting better in the canon, where he is developing and changing, and that is really neat to watch. None of that is either really here or there -- like you said, I don't think there's any real excusing his behavior; I don't think acknowledging that he's a jerk, or that it's typical teenager behavior makes it any better, any less awful, but looking at his jerk behavior next to his non-jerk behavior, especially regarding his interaction with souji, more than anything I really do find him fascinating, as a character. long sentence is longI think another instance of his social maladjusted-ness is in that camp-out scene, with the bathing suits ( ... )

I am honestly surprised that there aren't more people who waver over whether or not to like him. He's a dick. I saw in the RP_Advice_Meme that Yousuke is someone who likes to tease his friends but never does it in a mean-spirited way and never goes too far. That is not him. A lot of people see him as a victim of bad luck, and I think going at him from that approach is completely missing the point. Yousuke is judgmental, harsh, and doesn't always get it. Yes, he is a good person and means to protect people, but he is very stuck on himself at times. He doesn't get it sometimes. I mean, he doesn't tease Naoto about being useless because he sincerely means it, but it's that sort of going too far that's a problem ( ... )
