Hey, I actually like gyms, but they aren't necessarily convenient. I'm with you on hating the workout video commentary. I use a podcast called 20-minute yoga, which at least gives me a variety of choices, but occasionally give some super new-agey commentary along with the stretches. Sigh.
I can't get past the commentary at all. I don't know what it is they said exactly, but I just about fell over laughing in the middle of some lunges.
I've always found the gym experience to be super awkward.I have a hard time wanting to get up and go. I really should take advantage of the one here in the community though, they have a gorgeous lap pool, and it's literally a five minute walk from my apartment. Blargh.
good for you. I'm having decent luck with the weight loss myself and contemplating a workout video. I bought an exercise ball, and I'm fearful of killing myself rolling around on it.
Go you! I've always preferred the quiet of my own home to huff and puff around. Unless it was like, gymnastics class. The gym is so not a place I want to go, but B took me to yoga...which was alright. Although the only reason I wasnt looking at everyone else was cause I was too busy trying to figure out which pose to be in and how to get there. So the only few people I 'saw' were the people in front, in back, and on the side of me. Everyone's in their own zen--it was nice. But, there's nothing I hate more than feeling icky and sweaty in a crowd of strangers waiting for a shower. Blech!
I have heard good things about P90X. A couple friends of mine do that.. I think that its downloadable... I myself, prefer the little Pilates book i have to pull from. But its mostly cause i'm familiar with the moves.
You should take advantage of the pool. It will be much more fun when it's hot out to utilize :)
