Stolen from all of you:
1. Eggnog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate. I don't like eggnog, though I buy it every week from when it comes out until it is no longer on the shelves because both Nick and Peter love the stuff.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
WRAP! Nick told me that Santa never wrapped their gifts when he was a kid. I was mildly horrified. Santa not only wraps our presents now but puts bows and ribbon on some of them too!
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White. Growing up we always had colored lights and I loved it then, but now I really like my white twinkle lights. Our tree has white lights, outside my house is lined in white lights and I have a few of those cute little reindeer made out of white lights outside too.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
If I think of it, yes :)
5. When do you put your decorations up?
Weekend after Thanksgiving. My mom always started decorating the day after Thanksgiving, and it was one of my favorite days all year. The anticipation of Christmas has always been like a drug to me, I dunno.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
A nice, slow roasted, glazed ham with perfectly roasted potatoes. Love. LOVELOVELOVE. Other than that, we usually do cold cut sandwiches on Christmas Eve over at my in-law's and for some reason I've always loved that, I think because we used to start out the feast at my Grandma's with cold cuts/other sandwiches, and it just reminds me of being in a teeny apartment stuffed full of people which has always made me happy.
7. Favourite holiday memory as a child?
I was a teenager, actually, and living in a place that I hated with every fiber of my being. We had just moved from the city to a middle of nowhere seaside town and I was miserable. I had felt this huge disconnect to my brother and sister, to my mother, and I didn't like my mother's at the time boyfriend, now her husband, that we had moved in with. I thought that my mother just wasn't going to give any effort to Christmas that year, not like she had when I was just a little kid, and I just hated everything.
I woke up around two or so in the morning to check out my stocking, always my favorite part of Christmas, expecting it to suck, but it was kind of awesome, and my brother heard me go downstairs and had also come down to check out his stocking, and we were giggling over them and trying to empty them and put everything back the way my mom had so we wouldn't get in trouble and my sister heard us and also came down and joined in. We tired ourselves out and fell asleep scattered around the living room and woke up right in time to run upstairs and pretend we'd been sleeping before my mom got up. It was epic and awesome and turned my mood around for sure. My mother found out too, we were too busy laughing at the mess we'd made of the stockings to try and hide it and we had her laughing too by the end of the morning.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I was seven or eight, I found all of the presents in my mom and dad's closet, including the biggie from Santa that year, the Atari 5200. I spoiled it for my sister immediately, she's a year and a half younger than me, and my mom found out and was so mad. I remember not being all that surprised, for some reason.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yes! My mother always gave us Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve and I've continued that tradition with Nick and Peter. Christmas jammies, and when Peter was younger, a bedtime book (he still sometimes gets a book, just one for him to read on his own or with us.)
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
The usual. Lights, ornaments. I have enough ornaments for two full size trees, it's a problem, LOL.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love the first snow and dread all the rest of it.
12. Can you ice skate?
Sort of? But I choose not to.
13. Do you remember your favourite gift?
The first Christmas I was not living with my family anymore, I was living with Nick's family, and he was so concerned with me having a great Christmas, the love. It was when Beanie Babies were a big thing, and he got me two stockings, one just full of Beanie Babies. It was so sweet, he watched me open these stockings (he knew it was my favorite part of Christmas morning present receiving) and sat there not even touching his own gifts and stocking, just smiling at me while I had tears streaming down my face at how thoughtful a man I had fallen in love with.
14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Being with family and friends that you love.
15. What is your favourite holiday dessert?
Favorite? All of them? Wicked sweet tooth, I have one.
16. What is your favourite holiday tradition?
I can't say that I have a favorite. I love the whole season so much. I am that person. I can say that my favorite moment is right after Peter wakes me up and he sees the presents, right before he starts to open stuff. The look on his face is priceless and always makes me get all misty eyed.
17. What tops your tree?
Nothing! It used to be a star, but the tree we have is really light and we found that almost everything makes it topple, so we put our many bird ornaments near the top, mixed in with the Radko Vader ornament and this crazy Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat like star ornament that I love. It's a mish mash, fitting for us :)
18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
I love both. I love giving someone the perfect gift. I also love how special it feels for someone to give you something you love.
19. Candy Canes?
I am a fan.
20. Favourite Christmas movie?
This is not a question I can answer. A Christmas Carol (I prefer the Patrick Stewart version above all others, but will watch any.) Elf. Christmas Vacation. Love Actually. A Christmas Story.
21. Saddest Christmas song?
Oh. Christmas Shoes. It makes me cry every single time.
