Don was sorting through his morning messages when he saw his teammates walking out of the lounge. He instantly recognized the look on Megan’s face, aware of revelation brewing as Colby followed her, impatiently waiting for her to share her thoughts.
Before Don could greet either of them, Megan nodded at him then turned her attention to Colby.
“As agents, you and I don’t know much about biotoxins, but we know where to find someone who does. Why else would they pick Walker? Why not a professor or a chemist? Only an insider would know she’s the best.”
She hesitated a moment as she sat down, rolling her chair closer to her computer. “There’s something else. From a profiler standpoint, there’s just something unsettling about this case. There’s this controlled chaos, like they know what they want, they know how to get it but there’s this sense of moral responsibility.”
“Moral responsibility?” Colby interjected, raising an eyebrow. “They’ve abducted an agent by force and set off a toxic bomb that burned people. How is that morally responsible?”
“Stay with me, Granger,” she quipped. “They could have tested the toxin anywhere. Why an abandoned park? Why not somewhere posing more of a threat? And why the change in tactic with Walker’s abduction? They had to know she’d not go without a fight. One look at her file and you’d know she’d kick your ass just as easily as she’d smile at you.”
Colby smirked at that, leaving Megan with a knowing smile across her lips.
“So… start looking at federal agents recently brought under investigation and then see what Charlie can do,” Don commented, having listened with interest to Megan’s exposition.
Colby and Megan nodded before he made for his desk, desperately hoping this new lead would take him to Callie... [ original post]
