numb3rs100 Rewind Series - April: Spy, Witness, Camera, and Discovery...
Title: Soldiers and Spies, un-beta'd
Pairing/Characters: David (part 1), Colby/OFC-Callie
Rating: PG-13 (implied adult situations)
Word Count: I shot for 100 x 4, and ended with 1,993
Summary: Colby has a date...
Spoilers: possibly 3.24 - The Janus List and 4.01 - Trust Metric.
Notes/Warnings: I managed three of the four prompts with 100 words. And then suddenly, my OFC-Callie decided to create an alternate universe for herself and then I no longer had control of the story. You will see the influences of the prompts: spy, witness, camera, and discovery...but you will see no remnants of the drabbles that were and yet were never meant to be. PS There's schmoop.
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, regrettably - it's not mine.
“Granger, did you give that camera-esque thing from the raid to Matt so he could figure out what it is?” David asked, absently gathering his things.
“I didn’t need to,” Colby answered, equally absent as he slipped the last of his files into the outbox on his desk. “It’s a CMG-37 camera and tracking device, also used as a one-way transmitter to listen in on all the dirty little secrets of the person possessing it.”
David stopped what he was doing and shot a glance to his partner. “Something else they taught you in spy school?” he quipped.
Colby stood up to gather his things before he turned to David, answering, “Seriously man. Discovery channel… watch it some time.”
“Not going to happen my friend.”
“And why the hell not?” Colby raised an eyebrow.
“Because unlike you, I have a life.”
Colby shook his head and chuckled, slipping his bag over his shoulder and making one last pass over his desk to make sure he had everything.
There was a long pause from David before he asked, “What are you doing tonight, man? You want to come over and watch the game?”
Colby’s smile widened then as he was sure to meet David’s gaze. “I can’t. Apparently unlike you…I’ve got a date.”
David immediately laughed and then sobered, “No. Seriously. What are you doing?”
Colby looked to his partner without blinking. “I… have… a… date,” he repeated slowly, gesturing with his hands as though he were signing the words.
David considered him curiously for a long moment before he tilted his head and smirked, “How much did she cost you?”
Colby only rolled his eyes with a smile on his face as he started to walk away.
“Come on man. Who is she? Will there be witnesses? Someone needs to see this.”
“Good night David.”
“Seriously… who is she? You know solicitation is illegal!” David called after his friend.
“Good night David,” he called back, his grin wider now than before as he disappeared around the corner.

He sat in his car, waiting outside the restaurant for several long moments as he studied the photo in his hand. It was the only one he let himself keep. She was in her Army Class A’s… her long and fiery red locks up and hidden under her cap, as it always was when he knew her then. She’d been through basic training with him. There was an undeniable chemistry that neither could act on - but one that even their Sergeants couldn’t deny, taking every chance they could to keep him and her separate from each other. After basic, her training took her 3000 miles away from him… and then, he’d found her again fighting beside him in Afghanistan. She’d been CID with him. She’d been a friend in a foreign country… and then she was gone again.
His thumb tenderly traced the shape of her lips before he finally tore his eyes away from the picture. The photo he had memorized… the face who haunted his dreams… was carefully tucked back into his wallet as he took another deep breath. It had been three years… and only God knew how many miles; but now, she was waiting.
One more deep breath, and he opened the door to the Charger. He was sure to straighten his suit after closing the door and then he took his first step toward the restaurant. He could feel his heart racing as he walked closer to the door. Three years… and only one picture to remind him.
Would she still be the same? Would the years and miles and separate ways keep them distant even though they’d be face to face once again? Or would it be just like it was… then… and after.
Flashes of her once more strobed through his mind as he reached for the door. Reunited at Quantico, they were both training to take the oath for the FBI. This time, however, they stopped pretending there was nothing more than friendship between them.
He saw her - every inch of her bare skin, felt the curve of her beneath his fingers even as he held the door in his hand. He remembered the feel of those languid curls tangling themselves about his fingers when she finally let her hair down. He could hear her voice, sighing his name… calling for him as he moved with her - their bodies entwined as one, fitting into every curve of the other as though they’d been made from one cloth - finally made whole again.
There was passion and fire… but even in the glowing embers after the blaze, there was friendship and words of a future… together.
Colby winced as he thought this last… a future, together. Some future, he thought straightening as he slipped inside the restaurant. He politely side stepped the hostess on his way to the bar, sure that she’d be waiting for him there.
A future together… he repeated. Fate was so cruel… he shuddered, remembering the last day he’d seen her. Spies… chosen for duty - he to L.A. while she would return to the Middle East. He’d been given one assignment; she’d been selected for many - more like a career than an assignment. She could have said no. He could have asked her to...
Three years since… he thought as his eyes scanned the crowded bar. One old picture… would he even recognize her?
His eyes stopped dead as he scanned a pair of long, toned legs running up to meet the curves of a woman that made his mouth go dry. Higher still his eyes moved, over the low cut line at the back of her dress - every muscle and bend just as he remembered it, making his hands ache to caress her, to touch her just like he knew she wanted. That perfect, smooth dip along her spine curved upward to her bare neck - catching him off guard until he saw her long delicious curls pinned up into a French twist away from her shoulders leaving only tiny tendrils to tempt him as they tickled her neck. The room went quiet and every thing else disappeared into the background as this woman from his past, feeling his hungry eyes on her, slowly turned her gaze toward him - and then a knowing smile danced across her lips.
All else was forgotten then as he stepped closer to her, almost in a dream until he could feel the warmth of her skin close to his own. Remembering himself, he pulled back to look at her… and then his own smile crossed his lips.
“Callasandra Walker,” he breathed, his eyes now raking over the front of her - the curve of her breasts leaving him hungrier than he’d been a moment ago. He forced his eyes upward, meeting the dark green emeralds hiding behind long lashes. “Or should I call you Georgia Kelly? Or maybe Savannah Grey? Or is it Dacey Montgomery this week? I know how you love those Southern aliases.”
He watched then as her skin flushed red, not from anger… but from a sudden bashfulness - the kind he’d only seen after that first night they’d made love, and he marveled over the reaction.
“It’s just me, Colby…" she answered, casually moving forward into a long awaited embrace. Colby closed his eyes as her body melted into his and then just as it always did, every thing inside him stirred as her lips drew nearer to his ear. “I’m out of that business now, Colbs… tonight, it’s just me… all you get… is me.”
His hands still held to the small of her back as he pulled back to look into her eyes. “Good…" he answered, his voice soft with the emotion washing over him. “You were all I ever wanted anyway…"
Her smile softened as she gently squeezed the back of his neck, instantly relaxing him as he stood staring back at her. There was a long moment that passed between them then, a moment where words were not needed… a moment for dear friends and treasured lovers to reconnect - to remember what was, and wonder what would be.
It was she who finally broke the moment as a nervous smile danced through her eyes. “Do you mind if we go somewhere else tonight Colbs?” she breathed, her forehead now resting against his.
He breathed in the nearness of her, his eyes closed as he answered, “Too many people?”
“And not enough exits,” she replied.
He looked at her then with understanding. “Old habits die hard, don’t they?” he sighed, pulling back and unable to resist brushing his thumb across her cheek.
She nodded with thanks in her eyes, “Occupational hazard I guess.”
He smiled then, and moved to wrap his arm around her waist, guiding her from the crowded bar. “Come on,” he breathed. “I know just the place.”

The trail of clothes led from the Chinese take out boxes on the living room coffee table and into the one bedroom of his ocean side apartment. But tonight, the waves could not be heard over the heavy breaths escaping two tangled bodies as they collapsed in passion… this hour the final one as they had nothing left to give.
“I’m not sure… we… ever…that position,” he gasped, his chest heaving with this most recent exertion. “They…teach that… in some elective in spy school?”
“Discovery channel,” the busty red head from his past answered breathlessly as she smiled down at him before her body gave in and fell exhausted against his.
He laughed with what air he could manage, enjoying the way she now nuzzled her curves against his own - moving against him until her body melded into his the way it always did… until two halves seamlessly became one.
His hand absently traced the curve of her spine as the two lay there panting, desperately trying to catch their breath all while they marveled over the hours they’d shared tonight. The three years may as well have been three minutes missing between them with the way every thing fell into place as it always had with the two. The connection between them… between their minds, their hearts, their bodies… it seemed as though time and miles only drew them closer together and every thing was as it had been the last time they were together. Only this time, Colby needed to know how much longer he’d have her.
With a deep, cleansing breath as his lungs finally found a steady rhythm… he shifted his weight and hers with it until he could look down into her eyes, with her body still fitting perfectly into his own. “Tell me, Cal… tell me how long you’re in town this time,” he breathed, freeing a hand from around her to smooth her hair back away from her face.
As she always did when she was nervous, she gently bit at her lip, shifting her weight beneath him as she considered her answer. “That…depends on you, Colbs,” she finally spoke, her eyes never leaving his.
She tried not to chuckle as that familiar look of confusion crossed his face and she moved one hand to adoringly trace the lines in his cheeks and forehead as they crinkled with his expression. “I… I have my choice of posts - anywhere in the world,” she answered him though he’d not asked the question. Her eyes shifted away from his for a long moment before she looked back. “I… I thought LA would be nice, but… only for as long as you want me.”
The smile that was on his heart then spread rapidly into his eyes and across his lips as he breathed his answer, “I always thought forever sounded nice.”
Relief rushed through her then… thankful that his heart had read her own, and as she pulled him down for another long kiss, she rasped with her lips against his, “It’s a good place to start.”
