Author's Notes: In an effort to jump start the muse, I'm going to post some of the entries I've written for my OFC-Callie from the
fanfic100 challenge. Some of the pieces are Numb3rs related, some are not. I will date most of these entries out of order so that they do not clog up your f-list, but I hope you will still enjoy them should you choose to read them.
Disclaimer: The Walker family, with the exception of Gary, belong to me. The James family belong to

There was a new girl in town. Callie watched her stepping hesitantly out of the car that just pulled into the yard of her parent’s house. She’d been told that her daddy’s new partner at the Savannah police department had a daughter and that even though Callie had never met her before, this girl would be coming to the 4th of July barbeque her family hosted every year. She remembered being pretty excited about the potential to meet a new person; heaven knew that Callie had never met a stranger. She would talk to any one and tell them just what she thought about anything too... and she had since she could say her first words.
Now, she watched the new girl clinging desperately to the hand of the big tall man that had to be Callie’s daddy’s new partner and she wondered what on earth the girl was trying to hide from, nearly cowering behind him as they stepped closer to where Callie stood with her daddy waiting to greet the newcomers.
Callie only half listened when her dad greeted Officer Craig James with a firm hand shake and his usual quiet and soothing voice. She was far more interested in watching the girl, who was now hiding behind Craig’s legs, her face completely buried. Callie leaned away from her own dad and tried to peer around Craig to get a better look at this girl who was older than she was, but not quite as tall. Callie, who had never been shy a day in her life, really wasn’t sure how to take this person who so adamantly hid from the world. After all, Callie never hid from anything... not even monsters in her closet. She’d stabbed them out herself. She didn’t need a man to rescue her, even though she always appreciated it when her daddy came to help.
She took a step closer to move around the tall form of Craig and as she stepped, the girl slinked around to the other side of her dad.
Callie watched as Craig moved to put a comforting hand on his daughter’s shoulder, steadying her where she was as she buried her face in his leg once again.
Callie gave a huff and furrowed her brow with resolution. Oh no, this will never do, she thought as she tried again to get the girl to look at her. This shyness was just unacceptable to her and with that thought in mind, she turned her lips up into her most comforting and pleasant smile.
"My name’s Callie… I’m eight today," she said introducing herself as she peeked around and tried again to see the girl who had come to her birthday party but wouldn’t look at her.
She watched then as the girl slowly turned her head against her dad’s leg so that one eye peeked out to look at Callie.
"I’m... I’m Emily," she replied hesitantly. "I... I’m ten... and... and I didn’t know it was your birthday."
"Well, that’s okay... we just met," Callie smiled wanting more than anything to make this girl feel more comfortable about where she was, completely unaware of the way her own father watched with a proud smile across his face.
Emily took another turn so that Callie could see both of her eyes and then she smiled again. "Do you want to play cops and robbers with us? My brother is a robber and I’ll be one too so you can be the good guy like my daddy."
Callie hesitated as she looked up to the tall and smiling face of Craig James before she looked back to Emily. "And like your daddy too."
Emily seemed to contemplate this for a minute and as she did, Callie’s nose curled up with the thoughts in her head. She was quietly hoping that this new Emily person was not one of those girls who only wanted to play with dolls and put pillow cases on her head to pretend she was getting married.
Just as Callie finished this thought, Emily looked up to her dad as if asking if it was okay. When he gave her a nod and a few words of encouragement, Emily stepped away from Craig, letting go of the death grip she had on his legs and taking a step closer to Callie.
Callie smiled in relief as she offered this new girl her hand. Emily gave another look back to her dad, and when he nodded, she gladly accepted the hand that was offered before Callie nearly ran away with her to tell her brother the news that she’d recruited another cop to come track them.
As Callie ran with Emily smiling behind her, she had no idea that she’d just made a friend for life...
