He would call from the road. They’d talk of something, nothing. He’d tell her things he’d never told anyone.
She knew too much. He stopped calling.
He sees her name on the caller ID, feels the pulse of the vibrations against his skin, remembers her beneath his touch. Flashes of her fill his mind with flashes of her name on the screen. He loved her. The only thought scarier was she loved him in return.
The phone stops ringing. The end did not come loudly - shouts, name calling, words spoken that could not be unsaid. The end came in silence.
