kay, so here's a short list of cool things to do
in the city that I could think up tonight, along with
where they are, ummm... the first group of stuff is
basically in the Mission, the next is in the Castro,
the next is in the Richmond, and the last is random
locals, wow, I'm a dork, but a helpful dork, anyways,
here tis:
Mission Area:
Paxton Gate/Pirate Store/X-21, three amazing stores
all located within a block of eachother, between 19th
and 20th on Valencia, X-21 is down the street, closer
to 20th but has mucho amazing stuff there, definatly
check it out.
Mitchell's Ice Cream, Guerrero veers right and turns
into San Jose Ave at about 28th, stay on it and you'll
see Mitchell's on the corner at 29th. Some of the best
damn ice cream ever!
Thrift Town: Yeah you know thisk already, but it's at
17th and Mission, great cheap stuff, last minute
present hot spot.
Good Vibrations, maybe this suggestion is too weird,
but really, it's the friendlist sex shop you've ever
seen, and if you can't check out strap ons with your
friends, then they aren't really friends, are they?
Valencia near 17th.
Castro Area:
Da Slides, in case you forgot how to get there, from
19th, go uphill on Douglass, turn right on Seward, and
there you are.
Tank Hill, best view of the city, hell with Twin
Peaks. Complex directions, best of luck, go up Market
past Castro, at the first light where this is possible
(Clayton) take a hard right (basically a U-turn in the
other direction), go uphill to the light, then take a
hard left (almost a U-turn again) onto Twin Peaks, as
you drive the road curves to the right, at the end of
the curve you'll see a set of wooden stairs on your
right hand side leading up into the trees, park, climb
said stairs and behold the majesty!
Orphan Andy's, possibly the best greasy spoon ever?
The fries are outrageous and the clientel is just
wonderful, Market and Castro.
Castro Theater, I have no idea what's playing but
whatever it is, watch it cause you know Isaac needs to
see the movie palace, on Castro, down from Market.
Richmond Area:
Green Apple Books, you know the joy, 6th and Clement.
Pancho's Burritos, only go if you get the Burracho
Burrito (I like chicken, but the steak is good too),
if you get a regular burrito, you'll wonder why I made
you go to the Richmond to get burritos, but if you get
the Burracho, you'll understand. Stanyan and Geary,
two blocks up from Arguello on Geary, cross the street
from BevMo!
Video Cafe, crappy diner/video store, but open 24/7,
with tvs playing movies. Nothing finer than hashbrowns
and Spiderman at 3am. Geary and 21st.
Random Locales:
Tosca, classiest joint in town that will let you in no
matter how you're dressed (but would it kill you to
wear a collared shirt?) Columbus and Kearny, downhill
from City Lights (you were going to take him to City
Lights, right?)
Grace Cathedral's Labrynth, top of Nob Hill,
California and Taylor, there's actually two mazes,
ones outside, on the ground to your right as you walk
into the church, and the other one's inside, where you
can take off your shoes, walk the path, and
contemplate the mysteries of the universe.
Polly Ann Ice Cream, the one with the wheel of
flavors!! Very busy right after school gets out, so
earlier or later would be better, otherwise, junior
high kids....... Noriega at 39th.
The Wave Organ, possibly the most San Francisco thing
in the city, no way really to describe it, here's a
description:
http://www.roadtripamerica.com/places/waveorg.htm here's a better map than the one they give there:
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=1+Yacht+Rd&csz=San+Francisco%2C+CA&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= The star is basically where you park, the Wave
Organ is at the end of the penninsula.
Ok, that's it, I just thought up like a million more
things while writing that but I think that's enough
for now, ok, a couple quick ones that you can look up
directions for yourself: Fort Point, the fort out at
the end of Crissy Field at the base of the Golden Gate
Bridge. Speaking of the GG Bridge, Baker Beach,
possibly the best view of the bridge plus lots of
naked old dudes playing frisbee. Sutero Ruins, I
mentioned these before but forgot them above, you know
where they are, end of the world, next to the Cliff
House. Above that is Sutero Heights, which give the
best views of the ocean and the Sunset and the sunset.
And lastly, Portals of the Past and the buffalo in
Golden Gate Park, one's creepy, one's buffalo!
Awesome!
That's all I got for now, should be more than enough
to fill a day, have a good one,
