Friday’s trip up to Northern Virginia was more or less uneventful. Despite being a holiday weekend, the traffic was no worse than an ordinary Friday, perhaps even a little better.
After Mattypoo decided it was too late for dinner, I spent some time kibitzing with
dracoshen while waiting for
leimon_malakoi to get home from work. After mildly teasing her about the portions of her eyebrows (as required by my membership in the unibrow liberation front) that were AWOL, dinner was held at
Pacific which was its usual good pan-asian goodness. Although if I ever find out who told the chef that Pad Thai should involve artichoke hearts but _not_ sprouts or peanuts, there will be a reckoning. It was a pity that
dracoshen wasn’t overly hungry but it provides an excuse to go back in the future.
Saturday was the Pirates party so obviously the most fun thing to do was to help clean the house. By the point that people started arriving, it almost looked smooth and presentable. And it is kind of a pleasure to comparatively not look like a packrat for once.
Not being a bad movie, err, action movie fan I spent much of the afternoon either reading or chatting in the living room while the general crowd watched the movie in the dance room. Movietime rolled around and the expedition of twentysome of us set off to the theatre, mostly in garb, and mostly driven in a small bus by a somewhat confused driver.
The movie was OK, better than I expected. It wasn’t outright painful to me in the way that many action movies are but it certainly wasn’t good. Plotholes, lack of continuality, lots of garish special effects, so on and so forth.
Although it does get some points for being the first Disney film to start with hanging a young child.
Sunday started with some quality time with
smcapote117, which despite any appearances to the contrary was quite non-naughty. After
leimon_malakoi got home from work for a lunch break, the two of them,
dracoshen, and
leimon_malakoi’s two visiting sisters brunched at the nice little indy bagel shop down the street.
After getting back, we found that
lostdog and Amy had returned to what was left of the party (a few people still sleeping) with donuts, which we were now too full to help dispose of. People wandered off bit by bit until it was down to the hosts, myself, and the sisters. Minus dracoshen, we set off for DC, stopping by Georgetown for
leimon_malakoi to purchase outrageously expensive bath products at
Lush, then heading off to Adam’s Morgan (by way of a little confusion on the Metro) to see the Tribal Café modern belly dance performance.
Getting out at the Adam’s Morgan stop, we found that the rain was pouring and we had quite a few blocks to walk. Partially soaked, we arrived to find that we’d gotten then just in time to see all three acts.
tamnonlinear joined us after the first act, and afterwards the five of us went out for Ethiopian.
Monday was lounging around, reading, trying strange and expensive Lush products, getting a hair trim, an expedition to Wegman’s, and grilling (Filet, Yellow Fin, Sausage, assorted veggies) with
wyrdone and
narquelion. We watched
Lord of War which I actually enjoyed followed by the beginning of Wonderfalls.
Tuesday had Pennsic planning, a few hours of work, and time with my parents, reversed for Wednesday but replacing the Pennsic planning with dinner again at
wyrdone and
narquelion's plus
teky4lf,
rockynomad,
mystymoonsilver,
leimon_malakoi, and one other who I don’t know.
