You were the second one I thought of when Wilson closed it out (behind only my brother, who I knew was going to be furious because he and baseball traffic are mortal enemies).
thanks man! sorry to pester your brother with all our jubilance and revelry, but it had to be done! jubilance and revelry are city trademarks now, you know.

There was something so indescribably beautiful about this entire ordeal. The heart pounding anticipation, the deafening cheers, the fact that one cause, even one so great as the majesty that is baseball, can make everyone your brother, everyone a comrade in arms. At the beginning of this year I didn't know a fastball from a slider and couldn't name a position on the field with a gun to my head. Now, in a few short months, this... miracle, this fantastic thing has happened and I can't breathe for the sheer joy of it. And now I've crossed an entire country to take part in this celebration of kindred spirits and I've never felt closer to the human race than I did being trapped in the middle of that throng of spectators, being jostled back and forth and cheering myself hoarse. I might have even stepped on your very toes this morning. You say baseball is your religion; well, my friend I think I'm beginning to understand just what you mean. Let the countdown begin!

oh man, i literally cannot wrap my head around the idea of being into baseball for one season and seeing your team win the world series. i think god really likes you, dude.
but it's amazing, beyond my ability to describe. one of my friends was watching the parade, and i said, 'can you see me?' and he said, 'are you somewhere in the ocean of people? then yes, i can see you,' and it seemed more profound than it was, which is something baseball does a lot. if you can see that ocean of people, if you can hear them singing and shouting, then yes, yes. i am there too.
What a wonderful journal entry. Someone else on my flist posted about the Giants and I had to ask if they meant baseball. It's not followed at all here in England, nor do I really understand it, but your passion and joy is palpable and makes me incredibly happy for you.
hee, witness me seven years ago, studying abroad in london and scouring the town for a bar that was showing the american baseball postseason--i know all about your non-baseball ways.
but thanks so much! it's been a really lovely week.
