Not really.

Russian Lavrentiev was a famouse japanese writer, russian Nabokov is a famouse english writer, and Brodskii even got a Nobel Prize.

I haven't heard anything about Lavrentiev, sorry, but what concerns Nabokov and Brodskii... We may say: nothing is too late for Russian writers:-)
