Joss got asked about this last April and he basically said that the story wants to have it both ways. But mostly that's cause how else would it be "OK" for Buffy to be with Jenny Calendar's murderer. I prefer the story where she *is* with Jenny Calendar's murderer.
Enemies is particularly instructive on this, I think. Angel does a *very* good job of impersonating Angelus. And Buffy notices that it's too good a performance and withdraws a bit.

Followed your debate on Buffyforums about Spike's arrival. Seemed like some people had difficulties to grasp at your ideas and seeing that your position had nothing to do with the fact your favourite character is Spike and everything to do with the logic in the writing.

Yes. The Angel=/=Angelus is a possible interpretation, but you have to ignore all the other clues pointing at the opposite. I guess it probably has to do with the sort of stories you like best, stories where situations are clear cut and more comfortable or stories with more jumbled set up.
