Avaaz means voice in Hindi, but I expect you knew that.

I knew it meant voice, because I read it in their presentation page but I didn't knew it was Hindi. (though from what they are saying, it's the same word in several languages in Asia.

Yes, that's right. Not sure of its origin but wouldn't be surprised if it's Persian. It means the same in Urdu and Panjabi.

I can't speak Hindi, no. Can't really speak Panjabi either. Can understand a fair bit, though.
