Everyone has been concerned about the price of petroleum fuel all summer long, this just compounds concerns. Cost of transportation is necessary to even make your money. yes it levels out after the crisis is calmed. And telling people to rent a movie if gas is too expensive makes no sense at all; You still have to drive to the video store.
It was a figurative reference dear. For most people the video store is right around the corner, as opposed to going downtown which might be farther, or taking a road trip for the long weekend like we're about to do.
I'm sorry, but I stand by my original post. I hate the gas prices as much as the next guy, but it's fucked up when people are more concerned about that than with the devastation and tragedy that people are facing in the storm's wake...
Just because people that still have a home are concerned about the costs involved doesn't mean that they aren't concerned for others any less. It's just that a natural disaster doesn't make anything go away, now they're both there.
all I'm saying is that it doesn't deserve all the media/blog/etc attention that it's getting. Focus on the real issues at hand. Yes, it's going to be harder for people, myself included with my 50 mile commute and gas guzzling truck. But seriously, there's people out there right now with problems a hell of alot bigger than my only being able to go out once next week instead of three times.
It will spike, and it will drop. It always does. It's already dropped six cents by our place since last night.
The focus only feeds the panic and hysteria. It's just like the "terror" scares in the months following 9/11.
I find it appaling that some are trying to gain more money using the tragedy. It's deflecting funds that would otherwise be put towards helping out. I can't really talk about what the media is like over there. I know we are concerned her about the price alone, (1.25-140 a litre is a tad too high, and it's cramping one a many budget) We figured there would still be shipments. I'm al for, let's stop talking about the gas prices and let's help those in need, but how am I supposed to do that from up here, if they are crippling my budget? give blood? it will only be used by my local blood bank. I can't physically go over there, and donating a couple cans of beans and a blanket seems rather foolish. I would think this is comparable to those who were selling orphans for profit when the Tsunami hit last winter.

Focus on something else...like relief efforts.
