I read somewhere in a Youtube comment that the latin-spanish version of this song turned out to be a whole lot more sinister thanks to the rather liberal translation job they did on it. I got curious so I looked up the original lyrics in English, and compared them to the Spanish version:
Original vs Spanish one (re-translated to English)
Look out! Look out! - Who are you? Who's there?
Pink elephants on parade - The parade's starting
Here they come! - Here they come
Hippety hoppety - Look at them jump
They're here and there - They're probably
Pink elephants ev'rywhere - Satan's relatives (WTF?)
Look out! Look out! - They are here now
They're walking around the bed Walking around the bed
On their head - Upside down
Clippety cloppety - like acrobats
Arrayed in braid - They terrify me
Pink elephants on parade They're driving me insane
What'll I do? What'll I do? What will I do? I have no clue!
What an unusual view! I'll never get drunk again!
I could stand the sight of worms - To all those who drink way too much
And look at microscopic germs - A vision will appear
But technicolor pachyderms - Colored elephants
Is really much for me - That will come to haunt and terrorize them
I am not the type to faint - Me, who defied the Devil
When things are odd or things are quaint - and whose tail I ripped apart
But seeing things you know that ain't - The tricolor elephants
Can certainly give you an awful fright! - Have made me lost my bravery
What a sight! - The horror!
Chase 'em away! - Leave me alone!
Chase 'em away! - I can't take this anymore!
I'm afraid need your aid - They're finally leaving
Pink elephants on parade! - The terrorizing tortured souls
Pink elephants! - The souls...
Pink elephants! - The souls...
Um... Dark much? LOL
When I read the lyrics in their original language, I was amazed; It almost sounded kinda innocent! Although I think the Spanish one does a good job at explaining why this whole scene fits in and why Dumbo and the mouse were having hallucinations. (Lesson to be learned, kiddies, don't drink!)
But ask any Latin kid from my generation which Disney song scared them the most in their childhood, and I am willing to bet that 95% will answer "Pink Elephants on Parade". Not only is the imagery
freaky as hell, but the lyrics in Spanish are just plain fucked up LOL.
So yeah. This concludes my random post of the day. ;)
On and wtf, it's my b-day already! *does the B-day dance*
