Time to be a big boy

Well, shit. I'm not slated to play another big tournament until nationals- just a few one days here and there. My rating is 1798. Division two at nationals cuts at 1700. So barring an absolutely horrendous run at these one-days, it looks like I really am going to have to play in division one for the first time in my Scrabble career. Sigh

If you're going to Nationals, why not play? Even if you don't think you can do well, you can learn an immense amount about your Scrabble game from the tournament, and take some steps forward. Also, I'd echo Geoff's post in saying you definitely have a chance to win a prize.

I have a tendency to crater when I'm playing poorly and I know it. If I make a mistake in a game or lose a challenge, I feel like a dumbass the rest of the game, and usually end up playing like a d dumbass too. I feel like after I fuck up a few games at nationals, like I inevitably will when people relentlessly phoney me after they find out I don't know any words, I'll get really mad at myself, my confidence will be shot, and I'll get paranoid and start playing badly. This post is more me being dramatic than anything, as I'm almost certainly going to play d1 nats. But bleh, I can't see myself NOT blowing up here.

In hindsight, I basically hit the nail on the head. Strong start, crater, terrible finish.
