Should I do it?

It's been a hot topic for a while, but I can't seem to stop thinking about it right now: Should I switch to Collins? I've been pretty opposed to the idea for a while, but I can think of several reasons to.

Pros:
I'll be able to relate to games played in the rest of the world. For right now, I feel like I just shouldn't look at games played elsewhere ( Read more... )

I think a lot of your cons are non-cons. Adjusting to Collins looks easier than one might think (see Conrad's Collins performance, for example). It probably won't blow up in your face -- the Collins movement seems to be gaining ground, in that more players are playing. Of course, Causeway was a huge loss of ground, but that seems like an anomaly. I think you would still find enough players to play Collins with online. Since you're already not a douchebag, you probably won't be a Collins douchebag. I don't think there is any correlation between Collins and douchebaggery, the douchebags are just louder.

One thing to realize is no matter which dictionary you play, there will still be plenty of words that should be in there. NITROXYL is Collins, okay, but it's not hard to find plenty of chem words that aren't. Also, there are probably words in both dictionaries that should be removed. The fact that so few words are removed every update is bad.

I'd do what I do. Which you're ok at!

Start learning the short words, and some say JQXZ words and dumb vowel dumps that you'd never mix up. Start playing Collins games with these short words, and see how you feel. You don't need to know Collins bingos to get a good feel for the game.
