The short mangas in it is definitely canon! :)
The drawing is by Obata himself, make no mistake about it.

But it mostly features the live actor who acts L though...I heard it was started by a death note photographer fan.

lol yeah but ive came across doujinshi (dunno how to spell that lol) while browsing on photobucket and that looked like obatas artwork to i was like "WTF!!? then thought "hang on ive read the series and thats never happend ah must be fanmade" (i can be slow sometimes hehe) ive seen some of those pics with the movie actor diddnt know it was file 1 though those pics are so cute too :3

Don't worry, your spelling is correct :)
Yeah, I also saw some 18x doujinshis on photobucket that look really like the original at first, but which is actually the same as the yaoi stuff in silentreaper's Raito's Rants.

There's also another video by takeforever from silentreaper's art in which Matsuda gives guide on how to "write" doujinshis. LOL. Did you see that?
