Great post, as always. I can't wait for Alice! That trillion dollars thing is overwhelming.

Dunno how I feel about Alice: I'm sure it will look nice, but I'm skeptical about Tim Burton (let's face it, he hasn't made anything decent since Sleepy Hollow). I really wish the Bros. Quay did an Alice. That would be fucken stellar.

i know watcha mean, exactly. the svankmeyer is the only one i really love. it captures the spirit, and if any of them are going to use the original dialogue, they should just quote it verbatum.
i do like my 5 record narration from 1957 that i've had since a kid. 'cept i haven't been able to hear it on a record player.

i carved a scull out of an unusually big piece of alanthus once, it came out great with light highlights from the outer layer of wood. about 20 years ago i braided some saplings together, but i can't find em!
it's a different vampire flick, sorta subtle, but not. well done anyway. i don't know if it's arty, just...mature(?). arty in that it's well crafted. enjoy.

When I was a little girl, my parents took me to a seafood restaurant. They had a dim television set into the wall so it looked like an aquarium, and it showed video of various sea creatures swimming past. Once in a while a mermaid would pass by. I thought it was real, like we were in a room under water and that was a window. I'd fix my eyes on it the whole time and keep asking my mom if it was real.

that's a brilliant idea for a seafood place!
