Monster snow goons??
Geez...I keep forgetting about that Gilgamesh book. Is that translation the best you've read? Did you ever finish 1776? I can't remember if you said it was a worthy read or not.
Here's my bedside table dust collectors:
A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens
..several agatha christie
Catch 22, Joseph Heller
Acting in Film, Michael Caine
The Intelligencer, Leslie Silbert
Playing with Fire, Peter Robinson
The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer
A Slight Trick of the Mind, Mitch Cullin
1776, David McCullough
*sigh* The never-ending pile...
I've also got a couple of Koontz books someone at work let me borrow. They're conveniently hidden from view...
Whatcha readin' now?

1776 is good, but, alas, I have not finished it yet... my usual problem of reading too many things at once bumped that off the radar.
Right now I am trying to finish both The Final Days and the Gilgamesh translator's notes that make up about half the book's length.
The Final Days is good, but a tad dry. It's about the last year or so of the Nixon administration as it collapses under the weight of the Watergate investigation.
The Gilgamesh book is really very good, I think I *did* enjoy it more than the other versions that I have read. You can really feel the oral tradition that must have been the basis for the story... the repetition of certain elements has definite "storytelling" feel to it. It is also a bit more earthy than the Victorian era translations, which I can't really speak to, since I have no idea what the original texts say. An example (Ishtar is trying to seduce a mortal man she fancies): "Sweet Ishullanu, let me suck your rod, touch my vagina, caress my jewel ( ... )

Yeah, I cover up the Koontz books. Makes it easier to deal with. My manager also gave me a Danielle Steel to read on Friday. Gawd. I must make a mental note to not discuss books with the people at work. I'm not saying Danielle Steel is all that bad, I just don't want them to bring books in to me. Now, being a wimp, I'm going to have to read them. *sigh*
I finished Anna Karenina and Heart of Darkness last weekend. I enjoyed Heart of Darkness. Ever read that? I'm almost sure you have. It seems sort of "you." I'm reading Mansfield Park now and I went hog-wild at Barnes & Noble yesterday--crushing men, women & lots of kids in my path! I'm so bad. I've got a stack on my night-stand and I keep buying more!
So...weak....

I snorted Diet Coke (the precious!) at your description of your shopping expedition to Barnes & Noble. Hee hee
Danielle Steel just doesn't seem *you*... you really do have to stop having people loan you all their crappy books, or you'll never finish your own enormous reading list!
I'll bring Gilgamesh this Friday... free of stuck-together pages, I might add :)

I think I'll take you up on that. Let me know what the next step is.

SOOO...I need to get a ticket(s) to you by the 22nd. K? I can't wait to meet you!
