New World review

Greetings everyone!

Well, after debating with myself for the last two weeks I finally decided to go see The New World. The revolved around the fact that I loathed Terrence Malick's last movie, The Thin Red Line. I was looking forward to The New World until I heard an NPR review of it and found out it was Terrence Malik making it. That plus the Farrell factor made it a lot less appealing. Funny, until I heard the NPR bit, I never ever heard anyone but you describe Malik's work as a "Tone Poem". But Terri Gross, (I think,) stated that "tone" is very important to Malik, and that his work is more poetic than cinematic. I lolled, and thought, "Funny, that's almost exactly what Rich said."

Glad to hear that it is worth watching. I don't mind slow films so much, though I require some cohesion and plot movement. I felt fucking cheated by Thin Red Line, (I watched it in spite of your pan,) although it was a visual treat, (Much like a Kubrick film.) I will likely Netflix The New World

Speaking of Colin Farrell, he is an almost dead heat with Heath Ledger for most annoying current actor. (Though I finally saw Lords of Dogtown, a movie where Ledger appeared to be taking a break from his divine mission to make everything suck.) I liked ( ... )
