Russia and Belarus Cosplay at AX

Jul 24, 2011 00:33

Hello everyone,

This year my partner in crime and I cosplayed as Soviet Russia and Belarus at Anime Expo. Since I slaved over this cosplay for months, I thought I would share the pictures with everyone. I hope you enjoy, and please drop me a comment letting me know what you think!  It was our first time cosplaying on a full scale like this.

Very, very pretty. And yeah, I can definitely see why people would glomp your husband. Especially if he is actually Russian.

What was hilarious is that we weren't at the convention for ten minutes before the first glomp. Another girl later asked if she could be one with Russia, and I had to explain to him what that meant. XD He pulls off a great "terrified raeped Russia" face.

Oh my god, those are both wonderful cosplays!!!

I wish I could sew well, just so that one day I can create a Belarus cosplay just as awesome as this...

(curse my being short, asian, and bad at sewing...)

Thank you! It was definitely trial and error for me, I had a lot of help on these. And I'm actually pretty short (5'1"), I just wore heels and posed strategically >.<

Whenever I sew clothes theres always just something a little wrong with the sizing D:
also I kill my hands to death...

Wow, you're the same height as me! :D That's a pretty cool coincidence...

Yay short people! Yeah, I had to do major adjustments on the pattern for the dress outside the modifications I made to make it look like Belarus' dress... The armholes were raised, the darts where shortened, the waist was taken in...what else...Oh and the puff in the sleeves was taken in half! It was a process D:

oh dat hair bow. It seemed so simple at first but it was actually pretty time consuming. I bought white ribbon by the yard and used the basic ribbon bow technique. You can youtube it but basically the bow is not tied but four pieces put together. The first piece is the bow loops, which is one large loop of ribbon glued together. the center is a separate piece you wrap around the middle of the loop to make the "bow" and the tails are the last piece you glue separately to the back of the bow. I put it on my wig using good old bobby pins. Hope it helps!
