Sorry to hear about this. Maybe eventually you'll get an excuse from him as to why, but it doesn't really matter.
What matters is for you to take care of self and to see yourself as a independent, strong, self contained person. Don't fall back and use this as an excuse to hurt yourself in various ways.
You got brains, beauty, kindness and mystery. His loss.
If it truly came out of the blue, that's probably not your fault. Sounds like he didn't really let you in and no one needs anyone like that. If he cared about you and making your relationship work, he would have found a way to communicate to you whatever drove him to want to end it. He might kick himself for it one day, but I wouldn't blame yourself too much.
You made the changes in your life. No matter what the catalyst was, you did it. Don't forget that okay? :)
Ugh, nothing is worse than being blindsided. I've been there. I'm sorry, Kate. Don't blame yourself for anything, but especially for not being able to read him. It's true that no matter how perceptive we are, we'll always lack total accuracy. Doesn't matter whether it's knowing someone's true feelings (which always can change anyway, right?) or how many planets are in this solar system. Glad you found that book and take care. You ARE lucky to be learning to care for yourself while young.
