CL, I had lunch in there a coupla times, It's okay. I mean it's a shopping centre, you know like a shopping centre anywhere really. It's worth a walkthrough just to look and I did get good coffee there. It's near Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market (which if its on, would be a crime to eat in basically a boring coffee shop when the markets is the best food in London). Anyway they are all close. If you are doing that Tate Modern walk to the Market, it's there on the south side of the Thames Path. Because that whole area along the Thames Path is basically aimed at tourists, it is pretty touristy in terms of costs and what they have on offer, but it's okay. The architecture is what is worth the wander, and there is a great sculpture in there as well. Gorgeous ( ... )

Thanks for your take on that. My plan was to spend my last day in London at the Tower of London in the AM, make my way across the river, and wander back down towards The Globe/Tate in the afternoon. Unfortunately, Borough Market is not open on Wednesdays (if I read the website correctly). After that, I would make my way back to the hotel, drop off any loot I picked up on the way and then, as a grand finale, MAAN one more time (one for the road, as it were). Home on Thursday :-( .

I've never been to the Hays Galleria, but there might be a website with a virtual walkthrough.

As for LJ, I just click renew regularly on my Friends page. So I'm not much help there either. I'll go make us a cup of tea instead...

Did we decide to meet up on Sunday or Tuesday?

You would think LJ would make efforts to be less confusing for those of us who aren't so computer savvy.

I think it was Sunday since I wouldn't be on a time limit then.

I think the LJ help pages are rubbish, personally!! They make too many assumptions about prior knowledge. Oh well!

That's super! I don't imagine I have to be at The Globe any sooner than 6:00 p.m. since the play doesn't start until 6:30. 18:30 is 6:30 p.m., right? (I'm afraid I'm stumbling over the military time thing. :-\ )

Let's private email and let me know if there's a favorite place you'd like to show me - like someplace you know of that wouldn't be in the guidebooks and such. I'm guessing natives always know so much more than the books anyway, don't they?

Er... the Hays Galleria? Are you serious? You've got five days in London and you'd want to go there??!!!

Seriously, there's so much else to do! If you wanna shop, go to that place in West London... wossitcalled? That newish shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush.

For the notifications, you go to your account settings and to the notifications tab. Perhaps something's got reset somehow.

Hang on a mo - I'm just looking at my page, and it seems that that option has disappeared! It seems that the only way to get emails when friends post is to do it via individual journals.

Go to the journal you want an pick any entry. Click "track this" and when you get the options screen, tick the box that asks to be notified every time that person posts an entry. It's a bit laborous at first, but you should only have to do it once. Hope that helps!

Well, golly. (looks sheepish) I have no idea about it, that's why I asked.

Thanks for the tip RE: notifications! :-)

Thanks for the tips and info! My hotel is by the British Museum and I thought maybe I would spend my arrival day (Friday) there, but the river boat also sounds fun - and a good way for a newbie to get a 'lay of the land'(?). Is there a particular boat-touring company you recommend?

Hello. You've got a great hotel room, right in the middle of things, walking distance to Soho, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and the Thames.

There are three or four riverboat companies. The one to avoid is the catamaran service because it's enclosed and too fast, more a commuter service than anything. The one I enjoyed the most, because of the commentary, had red livery on its boats. I think it's called City Cruises and you can probably find it on the net.

There's one service which is blue and white -- I'm sorry, I can't remember the name -- and that's okay as well.

Have a fantastic time. With any luck you'll bring the good weather with you!
