Happy New Year, everyone!
I went to Gridlock to see Adam Lambert, so if anyone is curious about that experience...
Gridlock!
I had so much fun! I'd like to thank
astolat for inviting me to share her table which only made the experience 1000 times more epic!
Anyway, we got there and the line situation for the table was a bit slow and disorganized, which isn't a shocker considering my experience with the ticket people. We wait in line, I'm cold, stand behind some characters and we finally get to check in. At this point, we are offered to pay $1,000 for a private meet with Adam. Um, wow! Yeah, no. Still, I'm impressed he can pull that. If bb can get it, I say get it.
So we get led into the event by our hostess and taken to our table. The map layout was different, so we were actually facing the front of the stage. We are in the back, but it's cool. I also noticed there were 9 tables, not just 6, so I guess they got more in due to the demand. That's awesome. We are just sitting there and start drinking. I go for vodka tonics, but I found them a bit weak, so I kept adding more vodka and mixing my own drinks when the waitress wasn't looking. Probably mistake number one, but it's the end of a decade, guys! Hurray for bottle service and open bar all night!
While half our party went to get food, I was watching Fanny Pak do an awesome number. Love them, so that was great. They also backed up the singer after them, who I cannot recall that well, but it wasn't due to alcohol (at least at this point). She didn't even try and hide some of her lip syncing though. At this point the audience was all, ehh, but clearly the VIP Main Stage area was made up of Adam fans.
After eating a bit of pasta (should've had more!), I wander a bit with
laughincryin and
starsparkle333 and we go to the VIP area where a mediocre dj is spinning songs. I thought it was going to be a mash-up? Anyway, I drink more. And more. We go to the bathroom area and see the blonde lady who is always with Adam. I saw her a lot that night.
We go back to the stage area to sit at our table and somehow end up in this bit. Dunno what it was. Saw everyone in Adam's band (Monte, Longineu, Lisa and Tommy). Did not get the fuss about Tommy before, but in person he is gorgeous. He has a beautiful face. He's not as short as I thought he'd be though. Granted, I was drunk and he was standing on a curb near me.
Anyway, I missed the countdown. I was getting a call from a friend who didn't have access to the VIP area, but I was hoping to sneak her in. By this point, the alcohol was really starting to hit me, so I just go over to her and call her name, sort of bringing her into the area. The security was too busy denying Ferras access to really notice, for which I felt bad, but, umm... I got her in. Yay! Adam starts his set.
He sounded amazing and I danced my ass off. This isn't a review for details about his vocal embellishments and performance nuances (however, was highly impressed by his outfit and make-up) since I opted for being towards the back of the area and taking in the better sound system. However, I do remember how great it sounded and how much fun I had. And, oddly considering how wasted I was, it is amazing to some people, but I do remember all of Adam's set, the order and everything. Apparently that was where all my mental energy was focused as I fell apart afterwards. Didn't help that I was thirsty and ended up drinking red wine after all the spirits that were imbibed. I think I got it from the wrong table. I'm sorry, table-mates--I truly am. However, you guys did have a full bottle left. Damn.
Anyway, the set list:
Music Again
If I Had You
Whataya Want From Me
Strut
Sure Fire Winners
Soaked
For Your Entertainment
Sleepwalker
Fever
Down the Rabbit Hole
Encore: Whole Lotta Love
My favorites were Strut, Fever, Down the Rabbit Hole and For Your Entertainment, but it all was great. Oh, I really liked Soaked and Sleepwalker too. Cannot wait for a proper tour.
Anyway, after this, it all becomes a blur with bits and pieces. I remember a shitty band for a split second, falling once, and trying to hail a taxi and falling on pavement. Plus some random moments that really don't register.
I did wake up the following morning, feeling ~dodgy.
I look and see a bruise on my backside. Okay. Then I walk to the restroom and am informed I met Adam's brother. I do not remember that at all. Then I see more bruises (I constantly discover more throughout the next three days). And my elbow is cut up. As is my knee. And I have another friend's handbag, not mine. I lost my handbag.
kavasu comes over to get her handbag, and I cancel my cards, only to get a call shortly after that about my purse being found with everything there, including all the money. So I have to go back to Paramount studios.
I am now informed that not only did I meet Adam's brother, but I kept saying "Who are you?" to him over and over again. Apparently I couldn't process meeting anybody new post-alcohol. Not only that, but I fell on him. I am horrified, to be honest. I don't think I have ever done that before, even during my crazy hardcore raver days and drunken absinthe nights in London (Paul informs me it is because he was usually there to prop me up for the latter). I am also informed that I fell on the table (I do think I remember that since that was the most painful, I am sure) and besides the table twice. I was told I was snuggly and sweet as well. I also found a random picture of me floating around with a 2010 tiara on my head. An observer to all of this who I didn't interact with at the party, but afterwards on the internet said I fell really hard and should see a doctor. Oh my.
This is all relayed to me as well, considering how much I don't remember. That's a new experience for me as well. I don't even know.
If anybody else has any other information to add about what happened to me between 1am-2am and wants to help me piece together my night... well, maybe I don't really want that.
Anyway, I had to go back to Paramount Studios the following day to get my purse and get a friend her id (sadly, her purse is destroyed as someone threw it in a portaloo, yuck), which was pretty much a walk of shame since I had to answer "I don't know" to a lot of the security guard's questions (who was amused by it all and in good humor about it, not annoyed) and also spotted my jacket, which I totally didn't realize I left behind. Damn.
I had a hangover the day after and had some pain from falling on various surfaces and a person. It happens. Epic night!
