This is of no shocker to me.  But today in Intro to Gay Things, we had a quick discussion about United States military, foreign policy, and then watched a movie about "reparative therapy" organizations.  It was just another hard-smack in the face on just how sad, scary, frustrating, and pathetic our species has the capabilities of being.  But at

i have no answers but just as many questions and worries. but i love the class name: intro to gay things.

I do have to say that I can't imagine a place like America ever not having a military. Any country with significant political power is going to have a military, always, as long as other countries have militaries. I'm not one of the people that personally believes that wars will ever end - I think the instinct for humans to fight one another and form factions is just too strongly ingrained a part of our being. But, sometimes I am a pessimist.

I'm sure you know this, but it isn't just to get into DePaul that you have to have a draft card. It's illegal for men over the age of 18 not to have one. I also found out recently that before Vietnam the draft had been in effect always, even during peacetime. Military service was just something you were expected to do. Which, actually, isn't all that unusual. There are still countries today where military service is mandatory for all men. Not saying that's necessarily right, but it is what it is.
