I'm sure you know this, but it isn't just to get into DePaul that you have to have a draft card. It's illegal for men over the age of 18 not to have one. I also found out recently that before Vietnam the draft had been in effect always, even during peacetime. Military service was just something you were expected to do. Which, actually, isn't all that unusual. There are still countries today where military service is mandatory for all men. Not saying that's necessarily right, but it is what it is.
