Dude. I'm a Level 47 Insomniac. I've so been exactly where Sam is. (Well, not quite, but you get the idea.)

We never used the Latin much, except in Latin class. (Oh my god, I'm a nerd) But it's just so beautiful, y'know? And definitely, Catholicism seeps into your bones, whether you want it there or not.

there's nothing wrong with this. it's sad and very sam and it's very quiet and it feels right.

and he doesn't notice the long-worn valleys in the glass until he's done - hinting that john did the same thing, for years and years in the middle of the night, counting beads and confessing his sins.

(i'm not catholic but i always thought the rhythm of the rosary was kind of soothing and beautiful. a little ritual to give your chaotic world some order.)
