[The comm begins to record accidentally in the middle of...a din. Someone is shrieking. Someone is wailing. Pete can be heard alternately saying the words "ma'am", and "please". They are all he can get out. The camera can't focus. Someone is waving the comm. around. And then Pete's face takes up almost the entire screen as someone shoves the device at him. He has his hands up in front of him and a completely overwhelmed look on his face. A woman is shouting:]
"LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. HE WASN'T NOTHING!"
[The comm is thrown down, and it lands on Pete's desk, giving a crooked view of a woman with a gaunt face and bags under her wild eyes. She does not look like she has showered recently. She is gray with grief, and sobbing, but the wailing noise is coming from the baby in her arms. She advances on Pete, who has to back away to keep the infant from being pressed against him. He's trying to speak to her gently, but it's doing no good. She continues to rail:]
"Don't goddamn lie to me! It's all there! Right there! Like he was nothing! HE WAS MY HUSBAND! THAT BITCH KILLED MY HUSBAND! You want to say she's not dangerous? SHE KILLED HIM WITH HER HANDS. Screw you! Screw you! Screw you all! I saw it. I saw you say it! You're upset for that monster! All of you monsters are upset for that monster! Lawyers for the monsters! It's all on there!"
[She flings an arm out in the direction of the comm. Pete tries again to placate her:]
"Please ma'am, just calm dow-..."
[She slaps him violently across the face; drags her nails until they draw blood. Pete's hand goes to his face in shock. The baby screams. She screams:]
"DON'T YOU FUCKING TELL ME TO FUCKING CALM DOWN! Emotional trauma. MY BABY DOESN'T HAVE A FATHER! MY BABY DOESN'T HAVE A FATHER! MY BABY DOESN'T HAVE A FATHER!"
[She continues to scream it over and over, like a broken record. The words bubble out of her raw throat. She punctuates them by slamming her fist into Pete's desk. Eventually her fist hits the comm and the feed ends mid-word.]
"LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. HE WASN'T NOTHING!"
